The Immersion Experience
New York City is home to some of SU’s most unique educational experiences. These “immersions” place students in real-world environments to learn from industry leaders, make valuable connections, and gain a huge advantage in getting that critical first job after college.
Immersion programs are offered in a number of disciplines and range in length from a few days to an entire semester, and give students unmatched opportunities to hone their skills under the watchful eye of experienced professionals, many of whom are SU alumni. Global Enterprise Technology Immersion (GET)
Developed through a unique collaboration between Syracuse University and JPMorgan Chase & Co., this eight-month experience is part of a program designed to transform the education and training of students aspiring to technology careers in large global organizations. By providing paid internship opportunities in NYC, the GET Immersion gives students the opportunity to work in such areas as strategy, IT-enabled innovation, organizational dynamics, and effective communication, and develop the specific skills they need to succeed in the workforce.
Tepper Semester
This rigorous artistic training is a program of the Tepper Center for Careers, created in the College of Visual and Performing Arts by Tony Award-winning producer Arielle Tepper Madover ’94. It gives students from SU’s Department of Drama the ability to study acting, directing, musical theater, design, stage management, and casting in the culturally rich setting of New York City. During the semester, students live and study in the heart of the city’s professional theater scene. They take classes at Theatre Row and other studios throughout the theater district and learn from professional actors, directors, writers, and casting directors, all the while attending productions on and off Broadway that expose them to numerous genres of theater.
Syracuse Architecture NYC
Studio, classroom, and office space in Manhattan is home to Syracuse Architecture NYC, a program that taps into the resources of one of the great design centers of the world. Modeled on the School of Architecture’s successful study-abroad programs in Florence and London, this full-semester immersion offers budding architects opportunities to learn from some of the world’s best architects and take studio courses focusing on contemporary architectural and urban design issues unique to New York City.
